is a sovereign state on the northern coast of South America that is culturally part of the Anglophone Caribbean. Guyana was a former colony of the Dutch and (for over 200 years) of the British. It is the only state of the Commonwealth of Nations on mainland South America, and the only one on that continent where English is an official language. It is also a member of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), which has its secretariat headquarters in Guyana's capital, Georgetown. Guyana achieved independence from the United Kingdom on 26 May 1966, and became a republic on 23 February 1970. Historically, the region known as "Guiana" or "Guayana" comprised the large shield landmass north of the Amazon River and east of the Orinoco River known as the "Land of many waters". Historical Guyana is made up of three Dutch colonies: Essequibo, Demerara, and Berbice. Modern Guyana is bordered to the east by Suriname, to the south and southwest by Brazil, to the west by Venezuela, and on the north by the Atlantic Ocean. At 215,000 km2, Guyana is the third-smallest independent state on the mainland of South America (after Uruguay and Suriname). Its population is approximately 770,000.

Hygienic-sanitary conditions are acceptable. Medical facilities are among the best, especially public ones. There is a systematic increase of requests for emergency repatriation with a tendency to consider it as an act due to the expense of the Exchequer by the competent consular office. As you know, on the other hand, the legislation stipulates that to accommodate the demand for repatriation, the Office should check the status of contingent economic necessity of visitor to whom we cannot absolutely make up even with aid from relatives in Italy. There is also a quick transfer service offered by currency "Western Union" (no: 800464464) that provides the transfer abroad of money sent by family members to the compatriot who pours in contingent economic necessity. We recommend, however, to conclude before embarking on the journey to health insurance to include, in addition to the coverage of medical costs, including any return air health or transfer in any other country.

The telephone system is digital and all services are available; prepaid phone cards are readily available.

The climate is tropical, hot and humid with winds from the Northeast. There are two rainy seasons: from May to August and from November to January
