is one of the Turkic states in Central Asia. Until 1991, it was a constituent republic of the Soviet Union, the Turkmen Soviet Socialist Republic (Turkmen SSR). Turkmenistan is one of the six independent Turkic states. Driving Licence: The Italian driving licence is accepted if accompanied by notarized translation into Russian language. Car insurance not mandatory. Driving while intoxicated is strictly punished. Transport in General: there are no direct air connections with Italy. The capital Ashgabat is connected with regular flights from Frankfurt (Lufthansa) and Moscow (S7/Sibir Airlines, Turkmenistan Airlines). There are also regular connections with Istanbul, Karachi, Abu Dhabi New Delhi, Tashkent, Almaty, Yerevan and Baku.
